The Virginia Bag "Dove"

The female inspiration for this handbag is drawn from my grandmother on my mother's side, Mary Virginia. She was a beautiful woman with thick auburn hair and cheek bones to die for. I remember her always dressing so elegant. A classy woman she was, always adorned with the perfect accessories to accent her wardrobe. I do not remember her ever carrying soft handbags, but always structured ones, often filled with her lipsticks, handkerchiefs, and eyeglasses. "Ginny" is what she often went by, but us grandchildren called her "Nana." When designing this handbag, Virginia above all other names seemed appropriate. It fits her to a "T." I think it would have made her proud. I love you, Nana.

The Virginia Bag can be worn with the sides out for a modern look (as shown), or tucked away inside for a polished clean finish. A black removable leather shoulder strap coupled with nickel chain continue the contemporary, structured look of this handbag.

The symbol of the dove is quietly tucked away under the top flap, only to greet you with a delightful surprise when you open your handbag.

The dove is a symbol of peace, the Trinity and the Annunciation, but it's representation of the Holy Spirit is recognized the most. When Jesus was baptized, "He saw the spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, 'This ism y Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well please.'" Matthew 3:16-17

The Mabel Bag "Dove"

Goldie Mabel Simmons Wright was her name. My great grandmother, my mother's side. She is whom this handbag is named after. My goodness she was an amazing baker. I think my fondest memories of her were walking into her kitchen, enveloped by the luscious sweet fragrance of her made from scratch peach or blueberry cobbler, she standing there in her apron, her soft aging, freckled hands covered in flour....her welcoming smile. What a blessing she was to me. I miss her fondly. I know she is looking down at me from heaven....I certainly hope she likes what she sees. I love you, Maw-maw.

 This particular Mabel Bag was a special order, my client desiring a Bohemian look. While I can not recreate this exact handbag, I am able to create others in a very similar fashion.

Detail, detail, detail. What would an SCD handbag be without detail? Boring. I spare no expense to detail. Whether it be my signature cascade of fabrics featured on the inside pockets here, or the nickel studded leather accent band along the bottom of the bag, creativity flourishes here.

The Half-Moon Bag - "The Dove"

The dove is the primary symbol of the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit was present as a dove at the baptism of Christ (Matt. 3:16). This lovely avian represents many differnet things throughout history. It has its presence in Christian art, Medieval art, Russian and Greek Orthodox icons, as well as associations with the seven gifts of the Spirit, peace, the Annunciation, the Trinity, life, and death. The scripture verse chosen for this handbag comes from Matthew 3:16-17 "And when Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to him and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased."" This said, I am pleased to present to you "The Dove." The colors on this handbag represent different shades of water, reflecting on the baptism of Christ. The fabrics consist of tweed, quilted poly blend, linen, suiting, cotton blends.









One of the things I like best about this bag is that the profile looks glorious! How pretty is the flower on the shoulder strap. It adds a lovely feminine touch to your neckline.










The flower is made up of tweed, chenille, velvet, corduroy, denim, satin ribbon, and a fabulous 1930's button replica.






As always, Scarlet Clover bags are just as pretty on the inside, as they are out. The pockets are made in my signature "cascade" of fabrics style. Pockets on both sides have a slot for your writing pens and nail files (or perhaps lip liners), and the larger pocket is big enough for sunglasses, Blackberry's, checkbooks, and phones. The Half Moon bag also has my signature side compartments so to keep things very organized. Enjoy!
