The Large Day Bag "Peacock"

In Christian history the peacock is a symbol of immortality because the ancients believed that the flesh of the peacock did not decay, becoming a symbol of Christ and his immortality. The earliest usage of the word peacock (or peafowl) in written English can be dated back to 1300. Throughout history, the peacock has become a symbol of great significance for many religions. Many Medieval works of art employ the peacock, as well as in manuscripts, mosaics, and decorative motifs on church's and buildings. Early Renaissance artist Fra Angelico used a peacock in  his painting Adoration of the Magi (c.1445), perched on the roof of the stable, symbolizing the immortality of the Christ child. With its shedding and regrowth of tail feather's annually, the peacock too symbolizes renewal. The "eye" on the peacock's tail feathers came to symbolize God's all-seeing eye.
This handbag is composed of cotton velvet, microfiber, silk, and cotton/poly blends. All hardware is brass.
My signature cascade of fabrics grace the back side of the handbag.

The "eye" of the peacock is surrounded by wisps of  burnt orange feathers. This is a long process to create using 100's of stitches. Although difficult to see in this photo, a purse charm consisting of peacock colors accent the top right corner of the bag with the SCD logo.
Detail abounds in "Peacock." The inside of the handbag has one 6" zipper pocket, one 12" zipper pocket, and three side pockets. This bag is large enough to carry your laptop.

The Large Day Bag "Judas"

"Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, "What will you give me if I betray him [Jesus] to you?" They paid him thirty pieces of silver. And from that moment he began to look for an opportunity to betray him.

I have been wanting to for quite some time now create a theme based on this passage from scripture, and so "Judas" has been born. The symbolism of "Judas" is pretty straight forward. The depths of Judas' betrayal is represented by the color black, and the silver flecks in the fabric is symbolic of the 30 silver coins Judas took as a reward for giving the chief priests and the elders information on where to find Jesus. $230 Matthew 26: 14-16, NRSV Brackets mine.

By clicking on any of the images to the left, one can get a larger view of the details.

The Large Day Bag looks elegant with it's multiple layers of black fabrics. I have incorporated designer faux leather, chiffon, satin, nylon/spandex blend, twill bottomweight, poly blends, and bamboo for the handles. All hardware is nickle plated.

A fantastic profile shot of "Judas"

Just as the side pocket in the Large Day Bag has a silver lining, so does the story of Judas. "When Judas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus was condemned, he repented and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders. He said, "I have sinned by betraying innocent blood." But they said, "What is that to us? See to it yourself." Throwing down the pieces of silver in the temple, he departed; and he went and hanged himself." Matt 27:3-5. Judas recognizes his sins and repents passionately. His confession is the first and only confession of faith in the New Testament.

The Large Day Bag - "Love"

This Scarlet Clover bag is very special to me. I only made two, and will not make anymore like it. Melanie, who is pictured here with me, is one of my dearest friends. I met her while I was studying in Australia while in high school, some 19 years ago. We have remained very close ever since, along with another wonderful woman, named Rochelle, who lives about 40 minutes from Melanie. Although we are half a world apart, this distance has not and can not put a wedge between the three of us. We were inseperable when I lived there, and through emails, Facebook, and Skype, we are still inseperable!! I will always hold their friendships very close to my heart.

Melanie came to visit me in January for 10 days, and we had such a glorious time. The days simply went by too fast. As a gift to Mel, I made for her this handbag, and one for myself, as a token of our friendship. My other dearest friend, Rochelle, well, her bag is in the making. Once again, there will only be two of those. I simply can not wait to finish it! You can bet I'll post it as soon as I do.

This interior of this Large Day Bag is very colorful. Even the side pocket is lined in lavendar! Plenty of storage compartments for all of your girly needs, and the three side pockets are full enough to stowe away your blackberries, big ol' sunglasses, and anything else you fancy. Once again, an SC bag is just a pretty on the inside as it is out.

The Large Day Bag - "Eden" 2008

This stunning handbag is an updated version of the Large Day Bag that came out in 2006. It will stand up strong like a briefcase, and has a durable plastic bottom so to prevent any sinking in the middle. The handels are an acrylic tortoise shell , and the sides and bottom of the bag are faux leather. Antique brass 3/8" purse feet have been added to protect the bottom surface. This fabulous bag is called Eden. Eden is the Hebrew word for "paradise". The floral and tropical prints on this purse represent the Garden of Eden, and the snake skin print is meant to remind us of the serpent, our temptation, our sin, and then our Fall (Gen. 3). I began my ministry in spreading God's word through handbags in 2006 with Eden. God is good.

Eden measures 12" tall, 15" wide, and the base measures 6" deep. It has tons of room inside. My first client purchased Eden to hold all of her knitting supplies, as it is tall enough to comfortably hold the books and neatly stash away other supplies in all of her pockets. This handbag is a classic.

A happy client with her new purchase!

Close up of the Scarlet Clover and charms.

This handbag is the cat's meow inside. With one full size pocket complete with zipper in the middle, one 7" side pocket with zipper, and three extra large pockets (on the right), you can be assured that you have room for all of your girly needs, and then some. The acordian style side pockets are perfect for Blackberry's, your Jackie O sunglasses, checkbooks, cell phones, lipgloss and nail files. Don't be surprised when someone stops you and inquires about your beautiful bag! Don't forget to show them how awesome the inside is!

The Large Day Bag - "Eden"

This fabulous bac is called Eden. Eden is the Hebrew word for "paradise". The floral and tropical prints on this purse represent the Garden of Eden, and the snake skin print is meant to remind us of the serpent, our temptation, our sin, and then our Fall (Gen. 3). Although this particular bag is not for sale, I will be making more of these come Spring. The Eden Bag was the first of Scarlet Clover handbags. This was a limited edition of 3. With the first sale September 29, 2006, I began my ministry in spreading God's word through handbags. God is good.

This is the Large Day Bag. It measures 6" across the bottom. It has tons of room inside. My first client purchased Eden to hold all of her knitting supplies, as it is tall enough to comfortably hold the books and neatly stash away other supplies in all of her pockets. This handbag is a classic. I have had more women than I can remember stop me and ask me where I bought this. "Well, I make them" I said.
