19910 Bag "Honeycomb"

19910 is actually a passage from the Book of Psalms 19:9-10 "the fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey, and drippings of the honeycomb." Honey and honeycombs are images that are occasionally referred to in scripture when speaking of God's word. The honeycomb is a symbol that I have been toying with in my mind for some time now, and the design I have engaged with for this particular subject really came to fruition while browsing through a Renaissance clothing website. I liked the idea of leather works and metal, giving a very modern look to an otherwise boring geometric shape.

I love this bag because of its clean, modern lines, and its sensible, efficient design. There is nothing I despise more than a big handbag that is a catch-all. With this well thought out interior design, I guarantee you can stick you hand inside and blindly find what you are looking for.

The back side of 19910 is home to a very large pocket that is neatly hidden behind my signature cascade of fabrics.

Showing off the inside of this bag is so much fun. I love the golden and honey colored sequence at the top, only for your eyes to finish off the deep plunge of the handbag with sassy leopard print pockets, backed by golden fabric that mimics the drippings of honey. Too Sweet!

Covent Garden Bag "Tents" (Khaki) $285

Although tents are not a subject that most would think of when reflecting on our Judeao/Christian heritage, they were certainly embedded in the day to day norms as part of a way of life. Within the tribes, one tent would generally consist of the parents and children, as well as grandparents. "Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes." (Isa 54:2) Because of the pressing need for expanding tents and growing clans and tribes, weaving and tentmaking were an important part of the economy. With "Covent Gardens", I have utilized a "patchwork" style on the bag, which is my modern interpretation of the hand-sewn tents, bringing attention to the community and culture of our biblical patriarchs. This bag is composed of leather handles, crocodile embossed faux leather, linen, cotton blends, and nickel hardware. Large nickel purse feet are a handsome feature.

The distinguished pockets that grace the front and back of the bag, come secured with nickel turn locks.










The tents were made of hand-woven black goat hair. "I am black and beautiful, O daughters of Jerusalem, like the tents of Kedar, like the curtains of Solomon." (SS1:5). Occasionally, sheep or camel wool would be added as an additional source of fibers. When woven in with the goat hair, this would lend a streaked brown/black appearance to the large woven cloths. Otherwise, the sheep and camel cloths were brown and tan. The black cloth roof of the tent would allow filtered light to shine through at night, appearing as stars in the night sky. "He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in." (Isa 40:2) When the goat hair fibers were exposed to water, fibers would swell shut, forming a protective watertight roof.

Staying true to form, I always pay particular attention to the interior of the bag, which is a quality that makes Scarlet Clover unique. The black, brown, and tan colors represent the variation of color frequently seen on the goat hair tents. The center dividers also function as

pockets, complete with brass zippers.

The Travel Bag - "Love"

The Brick Hotel in Newtown, Pennsylvania is one of Bucks Counties most beautiful assets. It was quite a privelage to be given permission to take photos there today. Being that the newest addition to my line is a travel bag, I couldn't think of a better place to introduce my new baby.

"Love" is the theme for this bag (this is a VERY popular theme among my clients). The large red rose on the bottom corner of the bag, symbolic of love, is meant to remind us of the fruits of the Spirit. Love has pride of place in the fruits of the Spirit, "love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generocity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22).







Hat boxes in toe, everywhere I go! Yes, I do have an addiction. Last count, I think I have 41.

The Travel Bag has six pockets on the exterior of the bag. Three across the front, and three across the back, each comprised of different, yet equally lovely fabrics. The exterior of the Travel Bag is covered in plastic so as to protect the fabric from inclemental weather, or spills from beverages. This way you spend less time searching for what it is you are looking for, and spending more time enjoying the view (even if it is a handsome Italian!)

For those who are looking for a diaper bag that really doesn't look like a diaper bag, and can transition into a good looking bag when the baby stages are over, the Travel Bag is a great choice. The Carpet Bag - "All Dogs Go To Heaven"

The saying goes, "All Dogs Go To Heaven". That may be true for our canine companions, but what about the dogs of this world? Those that are lost? Throughout history, the dog has been linked to many things, good and bad. In allegory the dog is the attribute of fidelity personified. In old German art, three dogs represent Mercy, Truth, & Justice. In Scripture, the dog is not viewed favorably. However, Ecclesiastes sheds a different light on the dog, by not giving in to despair, and finding hope in those that are lost. Would you just look at how pretty that looks! Oh so very handsome indeed. All of the compartments on this bag are terrific for organizing your worldly goods and treasures. Two semi-circular compartments are on the outside of the bag, each side, wrapping around the ends. The two side pockets inside are just the right size for big sunglasses, Blackberry's, palm pilots, and check books. Two smaller pockets are equipped to hold writing pens, nail files, and lip gloss.

The Carpet Bag - "Dandelion" 09

"The Dandelion is a bitter herb used as a symbol of the Passion in early Flemish and German paintings of the Crucifixion. It also symbolizes grief, because it is assumed to be the herb that the Israelites ate on the night of the Passover (Exod 12:8)." The Carpet Bag is equipt with plenty of compartments, rather than lots of smaller pockets. The exterior of the handbag is host to two large semi-circular compartments that wrap around each end of the bag. I find that this spot is the perfect location for my keys, cell phone, and chap stick. It provides quick and easy access for things I need right away. My favorite place to put my phone and keys is directly under the signature SC tag, that way I always know which side they are on.







The colors of the "Dandelion" are just beautiful. The earthy hues are great for dressing up, and look just as fab with jeans, and oxford, and driving moc's. The handbag is made up of corduroy, silk, taffeta, mole skin, tweed, velvet, cotton, and poly blends.

SURPRISE! I've added a new touch to some of my handbags. I've had a great response to the Scarlet Clover in the center bottom. As always, SC bags are just a pretty inside as they are out. The compartments on the inside make organizing your prized possissions in this large bag a breeze. The two side pockets are just the right size for Blackberry's, and your Jackie O sunglasses. Scarlet Clover to speak at Womens' Tea, Cranbury NJ

I had the wonderful opportunity to speak at a Women's Tea in Cranbury, NJ on 17 May 2009. To share my story with others, of how Scarlet Clover came to be, is always a joy. I spent the afternoon with a few friends, and many strangers, all of which together we shed some tears of joy, lots of laughter, and praise's for our Lord.

Opening your heart, the seat of one's affection, to listen for what God is calling you to do, and acting upon it, with so many unanswered questions, is not an easy thing to do. It is human nature to want to be in control, and to have answers for everything, but if we are to act as true servants to Jesus Christ, we must be submissive, and let Him take control. It really means taking that leap of faith, believing, trusting, and knowing that God is going to provide ~ and provide He will, Abundantly!

In the autumn of 2003, I completely submitted myself to the Lord. I listened to Him. He led the way to what is now Scarlet Clover. SC has become a much desired line of handbags, all because of Him. I give all honor and glory to Him! He is the real genius behind the beautiful SC designs, I am simply the vessel.

The Large Day Bag - "Love"

Ah, to be in "Love" again. I continue to be smitten by this handbag. Although my fabrics change every couple of months, I still keep to the same color scheme, and style with my materials. The look always remains, well ~ Lovely.

This handbag is composed of wool, twill, cordurory, silk, cotton, vintage lace, denim, taffeta, satin, and a variety of buttons (young and old). "Love" has a hard bottom, with antique brass feet.









The rose has a long tradition of symbolizing love. It has pride of place in the fruits of the spirit. "Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Generosity, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-control." (Gal. 5:22-23)
